PATROL DEPUTIES
  
    The Winnebago County Deputies are responsible for the police 
patrol of all unincorporated areas of Winnebago County, and also
provide police presence in several cities within the County. The
Deputies are responsible for crime and accident investigations,
calls for public service and assistance, and in assisting other
Law Enforcement Agencies when the Sheriff's assistance is
requested. The Deputies are responsible for serving Court
documents and papers for both criminal and civil matters.
Deputies are responsible for the transporting of convicted
criminals to various State Correctional Facilities, and the
transportation of persons arrested on Winnebago County
Arrest Warrants. The Deputies also transport persons to
Medical Facilities when required by Court Order or incident
events.
All Winnebago County Deputies have completed the certification
requirements for the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA). The
Deputies are required to be certified by the State of Iowa in Jail
Operations and Civil (document) Procedures. Deputies are
required to attend continuing education courses every year in all of
these areas. Deputies are also certified in the Emergency Medical
Field, either as First Responders or EMT's (Emergency Medical
Technicians).
 
 
                           Chief Deputy Dave Peterson has led the Patrol Deputies since 1991.  In 1974 Dave 
enlisted in the Army as a Military Policeman. After completing his enlistment service
and being Honorably Discharged from the Military, Dave began his civilian law
enforcement career in Winnebago County. In 1977 Dave was hired as a Forest City
Police Officer and served that Department from 1977-1984. In 1984 Dave was hired
as a Winnebago County Deputy. Dave was promoted to Chief Deputy in 1991. Dave
is a member of the Iowa Law Enforcement Intelligence Network and is the DARE
Officer for the Sheriff's Office. Dave is a fireman with the Lake Mills Fire Department
and is a EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Because of his experience on the
Sheriff's Department, Lake Mills Fire Department, and in the Emergency Medical Field,
Dave is a member of the North Iowa Critical Incident Support Team. This Support Team
helps people, both civilian and in government fields, deal with the stress related
to tragic incidents. Born and raised in Buffalo Center, Dave has lived in Forest City and
currently lives in Lake Mills with his wife Mary. Dave and Mary have two children and one grandchild.
 
  
 Deputy Doug Jenson joined the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office 
in 1993. Prior to joining the Sheriff's Office, Doug was a member of
the South St. Paul (MN) Police Reserve for approximately 4 years.
Doug has an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, and a Bachelor
of Science Degree from Moorhead State University in Minnesota.
Doug also teaches Law Enforcement classes at Waldorf College in
Forest City. Born and raised in Kiester, MN. Doug and his wife Lora
live in rural Forest City. Doug and Lora have three children.
    
  

  Deputy Steve Hepperly has been in Law Enforcement since 1985.  
Steve was a correctional officer with the Cerro Gordo Sheriff's Office
(Mason City, IA) from 1985-1989. Steve then became a Manly, IA
Police Officer until joining the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office in
1992. Steve has an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement from
NIAAC. Steve is also a Fireman with the Thompson Fire Department.
Steve is a First Responder in the Emergency Medical Field. Born
and raised in Mason City, IA, Steve lives in Thompson with his wife
and two children.
