
Concealed Weapons Permit Information Effective January 30, 2009
Concealed carry packets may be picked up at the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday except holidays. All applicants must be fingerprinted at the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office at an upfront cost to the applicant. Only Winnebago County Residents may pick up one packet for themselves.
• No loaded weapon, except law enforcement, will be allowed in the Sheriff's Office.
• Most fees are due upon application.
• The permit process consists of a review of the applicant's age, background, fingerprints, residency period, addresses, criminal records, and mental competency.
• Once the permit is issued, the County Sheriff is responsible for the information submitted.
• The Sheriff may cancel the permit without cause.
• The permit and all information on it is a public record which can be viewed by the general public or news media.
• Application procedures and costs will be provided on this website as soon as all details are known.
• Classroom training and range training is required at applicant's expense.
• Weapons are prohibited at some locations such as schools and government buildings. Companies and businesses that do not allow guns may post a sign saying so at the entrance to their facilities. Carrying a weapon onto property where such a prohibition is posted may be a criminal offense.
